Big Crowd On Hand For Fall's Final Scrimmage
Aug. 22, 2009
SEATTLE - A crowd of roughly 2,000 fans watched as the Washington football team held its final full scrimmage of the fall Saturday on a picture-perfect day at Husky Stadium.
The first half ended without any touchdowns being scored. In fact, the only points of the first half came on a 32-yard field goal from Erik Folk to wrap up the first drive.
The entire first two quarters matched the No. 1 offense vs. the No. 1 defense and the No. 2 offense vs. the No. 2 defense, alternating 1 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2.
The second half opened with a highlight play as Quinton Richardson ran back the opening kickoff (against the scout coverage team) 95 yards for a touchdown.
After the kickoff return, Jake Locker led the Huskies on a long drive that culminated with a one-yard scoring run from tailback Johri Fogerson, who had run the ball 11 yards to the one on the previous play.
After the TD, the third-team offense and defense got into the action for the first time, and played several series during the second half. On one of those series, tailback Curtis Shaw ran around left end for a 50-yard scamper to put the ball inside the defense's 10-yard line. Two plays later, Chris Polk scored on a one-yard run to finish off the drive.
The following drive, with the No. 1 units back on the field, Locker hit Fogerson with a 32-yard pass and eventually got the touchdown on a toss to Jermaine Kearse. That marked the final action of the day for the first-teamers.
On the next drive, Ronnie Fouch drove the No. 2 offense down the field for a score, a five-yard pass to fullback Tobias Togi. It was set up by a long gain from Shaw and a pass to Anthony Boyles that got the ball to the five.
The Dawgs have Sunday off, at least in terms of practices, before getting back to the final week of the fall camp. Single practices Monday and Wednesday will alternate with two-a-day schedules on Tuesday and Wednesday.
