Back To Two-A-Days At Husky Fall Camp
Aug. 18, 2010
The Washington football team held its 11th practice of the fall camp season Wednesday morning at Husky Stadium, the first of two practices scheduled for the day. The team will return for another workout Wednesday evening at 6:45 p.m. Thursday's morning session was held in helmets and shoulder pads only. After several days of the hottest weather of the summer, it was a cool morning at Husky Stadium on Wednesday. Much of the practice was spent working on special teams, but it was by and large a light-contact workout. We'll have more after the evening practice. For the time being, here's a Q & A with Husky wide receiver and holder Cody Bruns. You can also check out photos from the morning and video of Coach Sark's post-practice remarks to the press (after the Q & A). EVENING UPDATE: The Huskies completed their second practice of the day Wednesday just before 9:00 p.m. Near perfect weather greeted the Dawgs as they took the field with the first hour or so held under sunlight. The session began with Dr. Mark Emmert, outgoing UW president and soon-to-be NCAA president, taking a few moments to address the team. It was a half-pads practice for the Huskies, so there was never any true scrimmaging. That said, there was plenty of time spent in 11-on-11 action as the team worked largely on the passing game. With no tackling, it's a little hard to get a handle on the big plays offensively, but a diving interception from safety Greg Walker might have been the highlight of the night. The Huskies will be back on the field for a single session Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Cody Bruns Q & A GoHuskies.com: What have you been focusing on most in the offseason to improve? Bruns: Basically every day in the offseason when we had our conditioning, we'd throw two times a week, I'd try and get my technique better. I worked on focusing and catching the ball and all that. GH.com: With the receiving core so deep and talented, are practices more competitive? Bruns: We all came in together. We've been pretty deep since I got here so we're all competitive guys so I'd say it's been competitive since day one. GH.com: What have been the biggest factors contributing to the smooth transition since coach Sarkisian arrived? Bruns: Really just competition, I'd say that's the biggest thing, just competing every day. GH.com: What are you studying, and how do you plan to use your degree? Bruns: Communications, I'd like to stick around football somehow. Something to do with that would be sweet. GH.com: How did you get the job of being the holder this year; did you do it in high school? Bruns: No just coach Hansen approached me about, and I worked on it in the offseason. It just kind of stuck. GH.com: Can you describe the 70-yard touchdown catch from Keith Price in the scrimmage? Bruns: Keith threw a beautiful ball, put it right there, and gave me enough room to get down the sideline and score. GH.com: What has been the most memorable play of your career? Bruns: I'd probably have to say my touchdown pass (during a 2008 game against Arizona State out of a Wildcat formation) so far.
