Husky Linebacker Levi Madarieta to Transfer to BYU
Aug. 7, 2000
Seattle - Husky sophomore linebacker Levi Madarieta has announced he will transfer from Washington and enroll at BYU. Madarieta is a sophomore from Weiser, Idaho. He will have to redshirt the upcoming 2000 season under the NCAA's transfer rules.
Madarieta was one of six true freshmen to play for the Huskies in 1999. He earned a letter as a backup at safety and for his play on special teams. During spring drills he was moved to outside linebacker. He finished the 1999 season with 19 tackles.
"Levi was happy with the University of Washington in regards to his football experiences, but he felt he was missing certain other experiences connected with his religious faith," said Husky football coach Rick Neuheisel. "He was a player I really enjoyed having on our team and we wish him nothing but the best at BYU."
The Husky varsity will have its first practice Saturday, Aug. 12.
