SEATTLE - Washington junior tailback Jesse Callier was one of 52 players named a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's top college running back.

Callier, from Downey, Calif., has spent the last two seasons as the Huskies' No. 2 tailback and as a top kickoff return man. In two seasons, he's played in all 26 Husky games and has rushed for 693 yards on 124 carries. Callier already ranks No. 2 on the UW career kick return yards list with 1,309.

Callier was one of seven Pac-12 players named to today's list of candidates. Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 9 and finalists on Nov. 19. The winner will be announced on Dec. 6. Washington's Greg Lewis won the first-ever Doak Walker Award in 1990.

The 2012 Huskies open the season Sept. 1 vs. San Diego State at Century Link Field.
