SEATTLE - Kyle Lewis, a running back from Downey (Calif.) High School, has signed his financial aid agreement and will join the Washington football team this coming season, coach Steve Sarkisian announced today.
As a senior at Downey, Lewis helped lead the Vikings to a berth in the CIF Southern Section Western Division playoffs. A safety and running back, he rushed for over 1,200 yards and earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section.
His top game in 2010 came against Gahr, when he rushed for 240 yards and four touchdowns. Lewis also ran for 194 yards and two scores on just 13 carries against Lynwood.
In the summer of 2010, Lewis gained some notoriety when he posted the best score of 1,200 competitors in the SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, Quickness) competition in Long Beach, Calif. He also ran track at Downey.
The UW returns to the practice field on Aug. 8, in preparation for the 2011 season opener, Sept. 3 vs. Eastern Washington.
