CLEVELAND, Ohio - As a testament to the depth of talented young players on the University of Washington football team, seven of the eight players mentioned as all-conference selections by Phil Steele's College Football Preview are underclassmen, the magazine announced today.

Senior punter Jared Ballman (San Diego, Calif.) was the only Husky player in his final year of eligibility to be listed among the league's best. True freshman Chris Polk (Redlands, Calif.) was mentioned as an honorable mention all-conference selection as a wide receiver.

Junior linebacker E.J. Savannah (Bellevue, Wash.) was listed as a second-team selection, while juniors Casey Bulyca (offensive line, Woodinville, Wash.) and Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (defensive end, Waikoloa, Hawai'i) and sophomore Jake Locker (quarterback, Ferndale, Wash.) were named to the third-team.

In addition to Ballman and Polk, sophomore Ryan Tolar (offensive guard, Pasco, Wash.) and junior Donald Butler (linebacker, Sacramento, Calif.) earned honorable mention listings.

Washington opens the 2008 season on August 30 in a Pac-10 contest at the University of Oregon. The Huskies open their seven-game home schedule Sept. 6 against BYU. UW's other two non-league contests are Sept. 13 against Oklahoma and Oct. 25 against Notre Dame. Washington also welcomes Stanford (Sept. 27), Oregon State (Oct. 18), Arizona State (Nov. 8) and UCLA (Nov. 15) to Husky Stadium this fall.
