Matthew Rung will be entering his first year at UW as an intern on the Husky coaching staff. He previously served as an intern coach for Princeton's heavyweight men's rowing coach during the 2010-11 season. Rung will assist freshmen coach Luke McGee in all facets of the program. "He's a young coach and he's really excited to be involved with Washington rowing," McGee said. "I think he brings some new pieces to it as well. He has great knowledge, both in terms of strength and on the water." As a student-athlete at Cornell he was a lightweight oarsman for four years. In his senior season he was elected lightweight captain (2009-10). During the 2008 Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships, Rung took gold in the Men's Varsity Pair for Cornell. At the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in 2008 he took gold in the senior lightweight men's straight four. During that same event in 2006, Rung took home gold in the senior lightweight men's Eight. Throughout his career Rung has accumulated eight years of competitive rowing experience, been certified in advanced CPR and AED for professional Rescuers, and achieved a US Level 3 Certified Rowing Coach. |
