Dec. 28, 2011

SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies men's basketball team will honor former player Andrew Moritz prior to the 6:00 p.m. tipoff of their Pac-12 opener versus Oregon State on Thursday.

Moritz, who was a walk on at Washington from 1997-2000, passed away on Nov. 26 after a three-year battle against cancer.

The Huskies will play Thursday's game with a decal on the floor by their team bench displaying the initials A.M. and the years of his life, 1978-2011.

"Andrew was a dedicated Husky," said Washington Coach Lorenzo Romar. "He was someone that would inspire anyone that came into contact with him and we want to make sure that we acknowledge how great of a Husky and a person that he was."

Moritz was part of two NCAA tournament teams and earned a scholarship for his senior season. He played in 34 games over his four-year career and logged 76 minutes and scored 17 points.

Thursday's game is scheduled to tip at 6:00 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena. Fans will be shown live look-ins of the Alamo Bowl during selected timeouts and at haltime, plus are invited to remain in the arena and watch the conclusion of the football game on Husky Vision following the completion of the basketball game.

Go Huskies!
