The Husky men's basketball team welcomes three incoming freshmen that are expected to help in the defense of Washington's Pac-10 Championship. C.J. Wilcox out of Pleasant Grove, Utah is the most heralded sharp-shooter out of the trio and could see significant action. But don't corner him down solely as a shooter, as he has displayed excellent athleticism and the ability to get to the bucket too. GoHuskies.com: Are you getting excited for the freshman season?
C.J. Wilcox: "Definitely, definitely." GH.com: When was your first "I've made it to big-time college basketball," moment? CW: "Probably the first time we did open gym when we had a couple of the NBA guys come down. It was real cool that it was all about to start. [Brandon Roy] hasn't been playing, he's just watched a couple times, but we've played with Jamal Crawford." GH.com: Do you feel like you are starting to fit in with the rest of the team being a freshman? CW: "At first it was kind of rough because I'm kind of quiet. We've gotten to know each other really well though." GH.com: If you could describe the personality of this team, what would it be? CW: "Probably goofy. We all joke around and laugh together and have a lot of fun." GH.com: It looked like you were having a lot of fun when they showed the team on the screen at the football game against Arizona recently. CW: "That's how we are everywhere. We are always being goofy, messing around and having fun together."
GH.com: Your shooting has been one of the most exciting things about the new class, how is it progressing?
GH.com: What else do you bring to the table? CW: "Quickness and defense. I'll keep working on defense." GH.com: What are your goals for your freshman year? CW: "I'm just trying to get on the floor and get as many minutes as possible. I'm not saying how much I want, I just want to play." GH.com: School's really starting to get going with midterms coming up. How do you like your classes? CW: "It's cool. It's a little bit of an adjustment with time management and all that but other than that it's really cool." GH.com: Are there any games that you are especially looking forward to and any opponents that stick out in your mind? CW: "I would say Georgetown. Hopefully the Pac-10 is good too, because I have wanted to play a lot of them too. It should be exciting." |
