UW Hoops Announces 2009-10 Schedule
June 4, 2009
SEATTLE - With games against at least 13 opponents that appeared in post-season play last year, the 2009-10 University of Washington men's basketball schedule appears perfectly suited to prepare the Huskies for another run to the NCAA Tournament.
Washington, the 2009 Pacific-10 Conference regular-season champions, will play eight teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament, two that played in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI), one that played in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and two that played in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).
Among the marquee matchups are games against Texas A&M (home) and Texas Tech (away) in the Big 12 / Pac-10 Hardwood Series, an appearance against a yet to be determined opponent in the John R. Wooden Classic in Anaheim, Calif. and a renewed local rivalry against Seattle University.
Washington will open the season at home in the Athletes In Action Basketball Classic Nov. 13-15 in Bank of America Arena. The Huskies will host Belmont, Portland State and Wright State in the three-day event. To round out the first month of action, the UW will host San Jose State and Montana before opening the month of December at Texas Tech.
Big Sky Tournament champion Cal State Northridge will visit Seattle on Dec. 6 before the team breaks for final exams. On Dec. 12, the Huskies will return to action at the Wooden Classic before hosting Portland on Dec. 19, Texas A&M on Dec. 22 and San Francisco on Dec. 27.
Pac-10 play begins with a New Year's Eve home game against Oregon State, followed by a Jan. 2 contest against Oregon.
In late January Washington will feature consecutive games against former UW assistant coaches. Cameron Dollar's Seattle University squad will travel 4.9 miles across town to play the Huskies on Jan. 26. Four days later, Ken Bone will make his first appearance in front of the Dawg Pack at the UW as Washington State's head coach.
Washington is scheduled to host Central Washington in an exhibition contest on Nov. 4.
