Men's Basketball Pounds New Mexico State, 73-53

SEATTLE (AP) - Todd MacCulloch and Deon Luton scored 23 points apiece as Washington defeated New Mexico State 73-53 Saturday night. MacCulloch scored eight points and Luton five as Washington (5-3) broke the game open with a 15-2 run early in the second half that put the Huskies up 44-30. Eric Channing scored 17 points and Aaron Brodt 13 for New Mexico State (5-4). MacCulloch, the nation's field-goal shooting leader the last two seasons, made 8-of-13 shots and grabbed 19 rebounds. Luton hit four 3-pointers. There were six early lead changes before Washington moved out to a 20-14 advantage with seven minutes left in the first half. Brodt and Gerald Moore scored four points apiece as New Mexico State responded with an 8-2 run that gave the Aggies their last lead at 24-23 with 2:45 left in the first half. The Huskies led 29-26 at halftime and had a 26-point advantage in the second half.
