Jan. 15, 1998 EUGENE, Ore. -- Todd MacCulloch amassed 31 points and 15 rebounds and fueled a crucial late-game Washington surge in an 81-71 victory over Oregon at McArthur Court. Washington (10-3, 3-1) won in Eugene for only the second time in six visits. The Huskies are off to their quickest Pac-10 start since they opened with a similar 3-1 record in 1987. Oregon (6-8, 1-4) dropped its four straight game. MacCulloch hit 14 of 15 shots from the field en route to his fifth career 30-point game, the third this season. He registered his 15th career double-double and his sixth this year. He helped lead a 36-21 Husky rebounding advantage. Trailing 63-56 with 6:37 left in the game, the Huskies reeled off 11 unanswered points. Donald Watts tallied five points and MacCulloch had four during the run that put the UW ahead for good at 67-63 with 4:14 remaining. Watts scored nine of his 25 points inside the final 2:38, including five free throws, to secure the win. Three players accounted for 63 of the Ducks' 71 points. Henry Madden paced Oregon with 25 points, followed by Terik Brown with 22 and Jamar Curry with 16. Washington burst out to a 13-3 lead, but the Ducks closed the 38-35 by halftime.
