Coach Bender on Johnson
"Michael just needs one breakout game. Had that end-of-the-game shot against USC gone in, that might have been the breakout game he needed. He has probably been our top work-ethic player throughout his career, but I think he stepped it up another notch this year. Michael took to heart our challenge for the team to work as hard as they ever have. Last year we tried to put a dual role on him with playing as the backup point guard. We won't do that this year. We have enough people to handle the basketball; we want him to concentrate on scoring. He's got to be aggressive in looking to score the ball, especially in creating his own shot. If he does that, then he draws a lot of defenses to him and he is an excellent passer. He is very unselfish, but he's got to think score first so that he sets up the pass. The unsung part of his game is that he is a great rebounder and he's got to continue that."
