University of Washington men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar announced the hiring of highly-successful prep and amateur coach Raphael Chillious as assistant men's basketball coach in April of 2009 and it paid immediate dividends.

Chillious has been instrumental in tutoring the Husky guards -- including two-time All-Pac-10 perfomer Isaiah Thomas -- and helped coach the team to a 26-10 record and NCAA Sweet 16 appearance his first year, followed by a 24-11 season and second consecutive Pac-10 Tournament Championship in 2011. He has also proved his ability to recruit at the high school and junior college level assisting Romar land stellar 2010 and 2011 classes.

Prior to Washington, Chillious served as Nike's business manager for Elite Youth Basketball in Beaverton, Ore., since Feb., 2008. He previously served as the head coach and co-athletic director at South Kent (Conn.) School from 2003-08. He also held the position as head basketball coach at Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md. From 2001-03.

Chillious began his career in 1997 as an assistant coach at the University of Victoria in Victoria, B.C. He is a 1996 graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., where he earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology and registered a 3.4 grade point average as a senior He also served as a captain of the Lafayette basketball team.

Before UW, Chillious coached three players who are playing or played in the National Basketball Association - Josh Boone, Dorrell Wright and Andray Blatche. He has coached nearly 40 players who have advanced their careers at NCAA Division I schools, including former Huskies Isaiah Thomas and Matthew Bryan-Amaning.

Chillious and his wife, Charlene, have a young daughter - Zaya Joy.
