Purple Clinches Fall Series With 6-3 Win

SEATTLE - The Purple team clinched a series victory in the UW baseball team's annual "Fall World Series" with a 6-3 win Tuesday over the Gold team. The Purple wrapped up the five game series with its third win to the Gold's one. The two teams will still play game five Friday (Note the change to the schedule) at 3:00 p.m. at Husky Ballpark. Fans are welcome and admission is free. Tuesday, the Purple snatched the early lead with a three-run second inning. After Matt Stevens singled and Joey Dunn walked, Jacob Clem reached on an error, allowing one run to score. Freshman Troy Scott followed with a two-run single. In the third inning, the Purple made it 5-0 on a two-run homer from Dunn, the Huskies' senior catcher, who was playing designated hitter in the game. The Gold squad scored all three of its runs in the third inning. After Kyle Conley doubled and Brian Pearl singled, Conley scored on a wild pitch. Then, after a Julien Pollard walk, an error led to two more runs. Dunn finished the game 2-for-2 with three runs, a stolen base and two RBI. Scott was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in. Reliever Tyler Cheney, who pitched three innings in relief of starter Kirk Wetmore, picked up the win, allowing no runs on two hits. Elliott Cribby pitched the seventh inning for the save.
