Gold Squad Takes Fall World Series Opener, 12-7

SEATTLE - The Gold Squad won game one, 12-7, as the Husky baseball team opened its annual Fall World Series Tuesday night at Husky Ballpark.
Freshmen Michael Camporeale and Robert Pehl each drove in three runs for the victorious Gold team. Junior college transfer Mac Acker picked up the win, going four innings and allowing four hits while striking out four. Austin Voth came on in the sixth inning of the seven-inning game and got the final out to preserve a 9-7 lead and Josh Fedendall closed it out in the seventh.
Freshman Branden Berry led the Purple team's offense, belting a pair of home runs and driving in five. Sophomore catcher Ryan Wiggins was 2-for-3 with a double and a steal and senior outfielder Caleb Brown also went 2-for-3 for the Purple.
Adding to a potent Gold team offense were Trevor Mitsui (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI), Ty Afenir (2-for-2 with a double and 2 HBPs), Jayce Ray (2 doubles, 3 RBI). Juniors B.K. Santy and Chase Anselment each added two runs batted in for the winning side.
Purple reliever Nick Palewicz posted a 1-2-3 fourth inning for his squad.
The series continues with games Wednesday and Thursday at Husky Ballpark. Both games are scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
