Husky Ballpark's New FieldTurf

Jan. 28, 2005

The old AstroTurf, in use since 1998, gets ready for the recycling bin.

Gravel fills the old pits around first, second and third base. The new field will not have dirt around the bases.

The warning track that surrounds the field will be replaced by FieldTurf.

Work continues on the removal of the old turf.

The dirt in the mound and plate area (under tarps here) will remain.

While the old AstroTurf was starting to show its age, the pad underneath required little attention prior to the new field being installed.

The old tiles are removed from the warning track area to make way for the new FieldTurf

With all the old surface removed, it's time for installation.

The new infield will feature dirt-colored FieldTurf that will imitate a real infield.

The new FieldTurf is rolled out on Wed., Jan. 26.

As each strip of FieldTurf is rolled out, they're sewn together by the crew.

An area of the turf is cut away for the pitchers' mound.

The outfield will remain natural grass.

The new surface will cover the entire infield other than the mound and plate.
