SEATTLE - Over the recent weeks, we've been introducing Husky Baseball fans to the class of 2013 - those high-school seniors who signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at the UW next fall and play on the 2014 Husky team.

The eighth of our 10 signees is Mack Gaul, a left-handed pitcher from Toledo, Wash. Last year, Gaul earned first-team all-state and league MVP after posting a 0.41 earned run average and, playing first base as well, a .490 batting average with 27 runs batted in and 21 stolen bases. As a freshman in 2010, he had 1.82 ERA and a .420 batting average while as a sophomore in 2011, he hit .524 and posted a 1.61 ERA.

""Mack is a left-hander who attacks every hitter like a middle linebacker," Coach Lindsay Meggs said. "He's a mid 80's strike-thrower who has the ability to throw a plus curveball for a strike. Mack is a late-bloomer who is just getting started. This guy is tenacious on the mound and once he figures it out he's going to be very tough on lefties."

Here's a look at Mack:

UW Baseball: What is your pre-game superstition if you have any?

Answer: It's not a superstition, but more of a ritual; I pray before each game.

UW Baseball: What is your favorite pre-game meal?

Answer: Pepperoni pizza and grape Powerade.

UW Baseball: Favorite pre-game music?

Answer: Country, preferably Jason Aldean.

UW Baseball: What is your guilty pleasure TV show?

Answer: "How I Met Your Mother"

UW Baseball: If you weren't playing baseball you would ...

Answer: Be playing football somewhere.

UW Baseball: What is your favorite quote or saying?

Answer: "Respect is earned, never given."

UW Baseball: Who are you most looking forward to playing with at the UW?

Answer: Local guys, Robert Pehl and Erik Forgione.

UW Baseball: If you could trade places with one person in professional sports for a day who would it be and why?

Answer: Mariano Rivera, his cutter is absolutely filthy.

UW Baseball: Do you play any other sports in HS? If so, what?

Answer: Football

UW Baseball: Have you always been a pitcher?

Answer: I have played anywhere my coach wanted me ... everywhere except third base.

UW Baseball: When did you start thinking about playing in college?

Answer: Since I could throw the ball in the front yard.

UW Baseball: What are your personal goals this season and in your career at UW?

Answer: I would like to make All-State and to throw an 18-strikeout game. At UW, I want to be on the All-Pac-12 team and be a starting pitcher.

UW Baseball: Why UW Baseball?

Answer: I've always loved the Dawgs! The baseball program is on the rise and there are great academic programs.

UW Baseball: What is your best memory of Baseball at any level?

Answer: Pitching at Safeco in the Mariner's Cup for the Seattle Mariner Fall Scout team.

UW Baseball: What are some of the strengths of your game that you will bring to the UW?

Answer: I am a deceptive pitcher and go for the strikeout. I'm not afraid to put my body at risk to make the play.

UW Baseball: Have you thought much about what you want to major in?

Answer: I'm thinking business but still somewhat undecided.

UW Baseball: Away from the field and the classroom, what are some of your hobbies, or what do you like to watch?

Answer: Ping pong, football, and lift weights. I play Xbox (Halo, COD, Madden).

Go Huskies!
