Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Washington baseball team scored four runs in the ninth to draw even at 5-5, but Arizona scored one in the ninth to beat the Huskies, 6-5, Saturday night at Kindall Field.

Trailing 5-1 entering the ninth, the Huskies (17-36 overall, 6-20 Pac-10) rallied. After loading the bases on a single and two hit batters, pinch hitter Eric Peterson, representing the tying run at the plate, reached on a two-out infield single to cut the lead to 5-2.

After starter Kyle Simon, just one out from a complete game victory, was replaced by closer Matt Chaffee, another pinch hitter, B.K. Santy, singled to right field to drive in two more. The Huskies tied the game at 5-5 when left fielder Joe Meggs came through with a single to left field.

However, in the bottom of the ninth, Arizona pinch hitter Bobby Brown singled and scored on a two-out single from Bobby Rinard, giving the Wildcats (35-19, 14-12 Pac-10) the win.

Chaffee (6-3) picked up the victory while Husky reliever Adam Cimber (4-5), who came on to begin the bottom of the ninth, suffered the loss.

Husky first baseman Troy Scott went 3-for-4 for the Huskies while Arizona's Alex Mejia was 3-for-4 with three RBI.

In the second, Husky DH Chase Anselment hit a two-out triple to right-center and then scored on a single from freshman right fielder Will Sparks, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Wildcats drew even. After a Robert Refsnyder double and a walk to Rinard, Mejia hit a two-out single to right-center driving home Refsnyder to knot the score at 1-1.

Arizona took the lead in the sixth. With Rinard aboard on a fielder's choice, Mejia belted a triple to right to put the Wildcats in front. Seth Mejias-Brean followed with a double, scoring Mejia to make it a 3-1 Arizona advantage.

The 'Cats added two more runs in the eighth when Jett Bandy hit his second double of the night and scored on a single from Mejia. A two-out single from Joey Rickard brought home Mejia to make it 5-1

The Huskies close out the 2011 season Sunday with a 12:00 noon game in Tucson.
