Lamb Homers, But Huskies Fall To Oregon, 5-2
May 22, 2010
SEATTLE - Husky freshman Jacob Lamb had a double and a home run, but it wasn't enough as 22nd-ranked Oregon beat the Washington baseball team, 5-2, Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
The Oregon victory evened the series at one win apiece after a 13-11, 11-inning victory for the UW on Friday. Oregon improved to 36-19 overall and 11-12 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies fell to 27-25 and 10-13 in league play.
The Ducks got six innings from starter Justin LaTempa (5-2), who surrendered nine hits but only two runs. Madison Boer worked the final three innings for the save.
Lamb finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of runs to go with his homer and double. Bradley Boyer, Chase Anselment and Eric Peterson each added two hits for Wahsington. Andrew Mendenall had three hits and two RBI to lead the Ducks.
Just as he did in Friday night's game, Oregon's KC Serna led off the game with a homer to left, his fourth of the season, to give the Ducks the early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Lamb led off with a double, moved to third on a single and then scored on a single from Peterson, the UW's freshman first baseman, to tie the game at 1-1.
In the third, Lamb went the opposite way for his third homer of the season, depositing a ball into the left-field bullpen to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth, Oregon got the lead back on a two-run double from Mendenhall that put the Ducks on top, 3-2. The Ducks added another in the fifth when Serna walked and eventually scored on a two-out error and then made it 5-2 in the sixth when Andrew Mendenhall took home on a double steal.
The Huskies play their final home game of the season Sunday vs. the Ducks at 1:00 p.m. The game will air live on Comcast SportsNet.
