Baseball Blanks St. Martin's, 7-0
April 20, 1999 SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team extended its winning streak to six games Tuesday night with a 7-0 win over Division II St. Martins at Husky Ballpark. The shutout was the Huskies second in a row after blanking Cal State Northridge on Sunday. Sophomore lefty Mike Bomar improved to 3-2 with the victory. The 6-foot-5 lefty from Vancouver, Wash., allowed five hits and struck out nine batters in his seven innings of work. Saints starter Mark Mounts (3-4) gave up five runs over four innings for the loss. Husky relievers Shawn Kohn and Matt Massingale each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the shutout. The Huskies improved to 25-12 while the Saints fell to 16-14. In the fourth inning, UW senior Kevin Ticen belted a two-run homer, his 10th of the season. Ticen, a third baseman from Bellevues Interlake High, became only the 12th Husky in history to reach double digits in home runs. Husky DH Bryan Williamson also hit a two-run homer, his sixth of the year, and finished the day 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Shortstop Justin Leone led the Saints with a single and a double in four at bats. The Huskies return to Pac-10 Conference action this weekend against Oregon State. The UW and OSU play a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
