April 17, 2012
SEATTLE - Jacob Lamb collected three hits and the Huskies used a five-run third inning to pick up a 6-0 victory over Seattle University Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Husky Ballpark.
Husky starter Austin Voth (5-1), who went the first five innings, picked up the win. He held the Redhawks scoreless on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts. SeattleU starter Brandon Kizer (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits over two and two-thirds innings.
In the top of the first, the Redhawks (16-16) threatened to take the early lead, getting runners to first and third with no outs, but Voth was able to get out of the jam with two groundouts and a foul pop.
SeattleU found itself in a first-and-third, one-out situation in the third, but once again Voth was able to escape unscathed thanks to a strikeout and a groundout.
Washington (19-15) stretched its lead with five runs in the third. Brown doubled to begin the inning. After moving up on a bunt, a single from Lamb brought him home. After a single from Chase Anselment, Trevor Mitsui doubled to bring home Lamb. Anselment and Mitsui both scored on wild pitches and a two-out RBI single from Santy plated Andrew Ely to make it a 6-0 Washington lead.
This weekend the Huskies play host to 13th-ranked Arizona in a three-game series at Husky Ballpark. Friday's game gets underway at 5:00 p.m.
