Heaverlo Pitches Baseball Past GWU
March 13, 1999 SEATTLE - Junior All-America pitcher Jeff Heaverlo picked up his fourth win of the season, leading the Washington baseball team to a rain-soaked 9-3 win over George Washington Saturday at Husky Ballpark. The UW (now 9-4) and GWU (6-8) were supposed to play a doubleheader to make up for Friday's rainout, but played only one through a constant drizzle. The teams will try to play two games Sunday, starting at 1:00 p.m. Heaverlo, a righty from Ephrata, improved to 4-0 with eight innings of work. He struck out the first five batters he faced in the game and, despite a 49-minute rain delay in the fifth inning, worked eight innings, allowing five hits, three runs (all unearned) and two walks while striking out nine. Junior catcher Dominic Woody led the Husky offense. His two-run double in the third inning gave the Huskies a lead and he finished the day with four runs batted in. UW leadoff man Marc Rittenhouse reached base four times, stole two bases and scored four runs while Nick Stefonick went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Senior Pete Orgill belted a pinch hit homer in the seventh for the Dawgs. GWU ace Adam Belicic fell to 3-2 with the loss, working six innings. Ryan Dacey led the Colonials offense with two hits and his team's only run batted in. LINESCORE Washington 9, George Washington 3 Geo.
