Dawgs Take Game One, 1-0
March 3, 2007 SEATTLE - A solo homer from redshirt freshman Ty Rasmussen did all the damage as the Washington baseball team opened a three-game series with UC Irvine with a 1-0 win Saturday at Husky Ballpark in the first game of a doubleheader. Husky starter Jorden Merry (2-1) threw seven shutout innings for the victory, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out seven. Lefty Nick Hagadone worked the final two innings for the save a the UW improved to 2-6 on the season. Rasmussen, the Husky DH from Enumclaw, led off the seventh with his second homer of the season, a shot to center field. It was the only run allowed by UC Irvine starter Scott Gorgen (2-1), who gave up just three hits and struck out seven in six and two-thirds innings. The closest that Irvine got to scoring a run came in the sixth when Cody Cipriano led off the inning with a long fly ball to right. However, Andy Lentz made a leaping catch to rob a potential homer and keep the game scoreless. UC Irvine fell to 10-4-1 with the loss. After the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Huskies and UC Irvine close out the series Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game. Live video and live stats will be available at gohuskies.com
