Mike Rundle, who completed his college playing career last year as the Huskies' starting second baseman, joins the Husky coaching staff this season as an undergraduate assistant coach. Rundle will complete his degree in business administration (finance) this year while helping out on the baseball field. Rundle will work primarily with the UW outfielders and will coach first base during games.
Last year, Rundle started 40 games at second base and played a big role in the Huskies leading the nation in fielding and finishing second in double plays turned. Rundle made only six errors and fielded .971.
Rundle transferred to the UW from Gonzaga, where he spent the 2004 season. Prior to that, he played two seasons at Citrus Junior College in Glendora, Calif., where he was an All-Western State Southern Conference first-team selection.
A graduate of Bend (Ore.) High School, he earned all-state honors as a senior, when he was also his league's MVP. Rundle also played football and basketball at Bend. He graduated from high school with a 3.7 grade point average.
