2008: One of the Huskies' most-often used pitchers during his freshman season, as he was second on the team with 20 appearances ... made 16 appearances out of the bullpen and started four times ... picked up first save March 8 in 5-4 win over Cal Poly ... earned second save in next appearance, working two innings in a 4-1 win over Holy Cross ... got a victory in first college start March 21 vs. Utah Valley, when he allowed only one hit, no runs and no walks over 5.0 innings ... earned a win in relief March 30 at Oregon State, working three innings in a 6-4 win ... no decision in a great outing April 8 vs. Portland ... threw 8.0 scoreless innings that day vs. the Pilots, allowing only two hits while striking out a season-high eight as the UW won, 3-0, on a three-run homer in the ninth ... suffered lone loss of the season in start April 14 at Gonzaga ... pitched in seven Pac-10 games ... played summer ball for the Newport (R.I.) JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL
Played four years of varsity baseball - two at Kamiak (2004-05) under coach Steve Merckeley and two (2006-07) at Jackson under coach Kirk Nicholson ... helped the 2006 Jackson team to one of the best seasons in state history as the team finished 27-0, won the state 4A title and finished as the No. 2-ranked team in Baseball America's final top-25 poll ... went 10-0 for that state title team his junior year, posting a 0.98 earned run average with 78 strikeouts in 69 innings ... pitched five innings for the win and also hit a two-run homer in the state championship game at Safeco Field ... went 6-2 as a senior, captaining the team to an 18-3 record and a league title ... posted a 0.93 ERA with 83 strikeouts in 45 innings ... named first-team All-WesCo, first-team all-area and second-team all-state as a junior ... one of only three pitchers named first-team 4A all-state as a senior, when he was also first-team All-WesCo as a pitcher and designated hitter and first-team all-area ... selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft.
