SEATTLE - Washington head coach Greg Metcalf has finalized the 2010 UW cross country schedule, which will be highlighted by the Pac-10 Championships this fall at Seattle's Jefferson Golf Course.

The Huskies will begin their season earlier than usual, as they have added a special dual meet against the Cougars to kick things off on Sept. 3. Washington and Washington State will meet halfway, in Ephrata, Wash., Coach Metcalf's hometown, for a rare head-to-head race.

From there UW will return to Lincoln Park in West Seattle for the Sundodger Invitational, their usual season-opener, set for Sept. 18. Washington then returns to the Notre Dame Invitational for the second-straight year, where both the men and women will look to defend their titles. The Huskies will run in South Bend on Oct. 1.

Two weeks later on Oct. 16 the Huskies will be back in Indiana, this time in Terre Haute for the annual Pre-National meet, where the Husky women are two-time defending champions.

On Oct. 30, the Huskies will host the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships for the first time since 2000 and just the third time in history. Jefferson Golf Course will play host to the Championships for the first time. The Husky women have taken the past two Pac-10 titles, breaking a 12-year Stanford run. The meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.

From there UW will trek down to Springfield, Ore. for the NCAA West Regional meet, hosted by Oregon on Nov. 13. A strong performance there would qualify the men and women for the NCAA Championships, back in Terre Haute at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course on Nov. 22.

The UW women have three-straight Top-10 finishes at NCAAs, as they placed eighth in 2007, won the NCAA title in 2008, and took third in 2009. The Husky men have finished 18th at the past two NCAA Championships as well.

Go Huskies!
