Purple-Gold Meet Marks Start Of Indoor Season
Dec. 4, 2012
SEATTLE - Scores will be settled this Thursday evening in the Dempsey Indoor as the Husky track and field team lines up against itself for the annual Purple-Gold Intrasquad Meet, an unofficial start to the indoor track season. The meet gets going at 5:00 p.m. and as usual will feature several traditional events, and a few wrinkles. Many returning All-American Huskies will be shaking off the cobwebs this week, while a number of freshmen get inaugurated in the purple and gold. This is the fourth year of the Intrasquad Meet, with Gold coming out on top in 2009 and 2011 and Purple winning in 2010. Action starts at 5:00 with the weight throw and high jump on the infield. The long jump begins at 5:30 and the pole vault starts at 6:00. Track events get going at 6:15, with the 60-meter hurdles. After a 300m dash and 1200m run, the coaches have scheduled a "Mystery Event" for 7:20. That is followed by the now-traditional 88.11-meter dash, which is the full length of the Dempsey straightaway. Final field events include the triple jump and shot put. Everything culminates in the final Allx307-meter relay, in which the full teams lineup and each athlete takes one lap around the 307-meter oval, a race that last about a half hour last year and yet still was competitive with several lead changes.
