NEW ORLEANS - Nine Washington track and field athletes were recognized for their combination of athletic and academic achievement today as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named its All-Academic teams.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.

The men had six honorees, led by 2010 NCAA Indoor Pole Vault Champion Scott Roth. Fellow NCAA Outdoor Championship participants to make the grade in the classroom are senior vaulter Ryan Vu, sophomore decathlete Jeremy Taiwo, and freshman javelin All-American Joe Zimmerman. Junior distance runner Jordan Swarthout, a Regional qualifier in the 10k, and freshman thrower Jimmy Brookman also were recognized.

Three distance runners on the women's side were honored, all of whom advanced to Austin, Texas for the NCAA preliminary rounds. Senior Kailey Campbell and freshman Justine Johnson both competed in the 1,500-meters and sophomore Kayla Evans was a 5,000-meter participant.

Team academic honors will be announced next week by the USTFCCCA.
