CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island - Husky sophomore-to-be Kendra Schaaf continued her stellar summer with two dominant wins at the Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships today at the University of Prince Edward Island.

Schaaf, a native of Craven, Saskatchewan, started her day with a win in the 1,500-meters. Competing for her club team, Queen City Striders, Schaaf ran 4:20.50 to beat Jessica Parry by nearly four seconds. The time was a meet record.

In the evening session, Schaaf returned to decimate the field in the 3,000-meters. Once again Schaaf broke the meet record, by five seconds this time, winning in 9:14.62. Second-place went to Victoria Hanna who was nearly 40 seconds back in 9:54.29.

Schaaf was also second in the 5,000-meters at the senior Canadian National Championships held last month. Her two junior track titles today are her first, adding to the junior cross country title she won in 2007. Last year Schaaf was 3rd in the 3,000m and 4th in the 1,500m at junior nationals, evidence of her steady improvement since last year despite redshirting her first collegiate track season after she led the Husky cross country team to the national title.

Also earning a junior national title on Friday was Angus Taylor in the hammer throw. A Regional competitor in his first season at UW this year, Taylor threw the junior implement 211-feet even. That was more than 20 feet farther than the next closest finisher.
