Sumner is a tough kid who has worlds of great potential. He battled through a mud bath to take seventh at Nike Cross Nationals. He has great talent and a couple years down the road I think he'll be a factor in the Pac-12.

A Top-10 finisher at the Nike Cross Nationals and second at the national meet out of the Northwest Region, which capped an outstanding senior cross country season ... Running Times ranked him the No. 17 runner in the country for 2012 ... one of the top distance runners in the state, he finished fourth at the Washington 4A state cross country championships and continued to build from there ... followed his run at state with another fourth-place finish, this time at Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regionals ... fourth again at the annual Border Clash race against Oregon, just two seconds away from the title, helping Washington to the sweep ... the Greater Spokane League cross country champ in 2012 ... also placed seventh at the 4A state cross championships as a junior in 2011 ... lowered his track PRs at every distance in 2012 ... ran at the 2012 Arcadia Invite, setting a 3,200m best of 9:18.86.
