Action Packed Husky Track Week In L.A. Area

Katie Flood and James Alaka lead the Huskies in the invitational sections on the track.

2011-12 (Cross Country): One of three freshmen to suit up for the Huskies in the fall ... earned a spot in his first Pac-12 Championship race, placing 67th in Arizona in a time of 25:28 ... scored for the Huskies in his first time wearing the jersey, as he placed 87th overall and fourth on the team at the Roy Griak Invite in Minnesota ... also scored at the Wisconsin Invitational, where he was 204th and fifth on the team in the massive field ... started the year with an 11th-place finish running unattached at the Sundodger in a time of 24:42.

High School and Personal: Born in Seattle ... parents are Lemlem Berhane and Simon Negash ... has one older sister, Selina, and one younger brother, Mussie ... one of the most improved runners in the state over the past year, going from 71st at the Washington State 4A Cross Country Championships as a junior to 9th at the 2010 meet as a senior, running 56-seconds faster over the same course ... carried those improvements over to the track, as he placed third at the Washington 4A State Championships at 1,600-meters and 3,200-meters in the first year he qualified for state ... also ran on the fourth-place 4x400m relay team at state ... named the South Puget Sound League track athlete of the year in 2011 after winning league titles at 1,600m, 3,200m, and the 4x4 relay ... ran a 3,200m PR of 9:04.03 in the 2011 state finals, over forty seconds faster his PR one year earlier ... was the runner-up at South Puget Sound League Sub-District cross country meet in fall of 2010 ... cut 13 seconds off his 1,600-meter PR from his sophomore to junior seasons on the track, and dropped another 11 seconds in his senior season ... played football in the fall of 2008, missing the cross country season ... the 2010-11 Federal Way HS Athlete of the Year ... graduated with a 3.68 GPA.
