Coach Licari on Planell Cruz
She's a girl that wanted to come to Washington since she was in high school. She went the junior college route but has stayed in touch ever since and always wanted to be a Husky. She's an all-around great athlete; pole vaulting came later so she's still picking it up, but she's got lots of speed, she's tall and was a great gymnast so she's got all the things you'd look for in a pole vaulter.

Jumped four meters in the vault last summer to qualify for the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, where she competed for Puerto Rico ... at World Juniors, cleared 12-7 1/2 in qualification but did not advance to the final ... competed for San Jose City College last season, winning the title at the California State Community College Championships last year, clearing 12-7 ½ in the final ... won the collegiate section at the Stanford Invitational in 2012, clearing 12-9 ½ ... competed two years for Los Altos High School, clearing a best of 11-6 in the 2011 outdoor season ... took sixth in the 2011 CCS Championships, clearing 11-feet ... in 2010, made the California state championships, placing 11th with a clearance of 11-3 ... also had a long jump best of 17-10 ¼.
