April 22, 2005 The Washington men's and women's crews host their biggest rival California in the annual dual regatta between the West Coast rowing powers. Racing begins Saturday, April 23 at 9 a.m. on the Montlake Cut. Junior Allison DePalma is the No. 5 seat for the 11th-ranked UW women's varsity eight which takes on No. 2 Cal. She talks about the season so far and this week's much-anticipated dual regatta.
GoHuskies.com:How has the season been going so far? Allison DePalma: "I think we're doing all right. We're young, but I think we're okay. We have a lot to prove this year after last year. I think we're in a good place right now. We're very close as a team and that's so important. We make steps every day."
AD: "I'm so excited. I can't wait. The energy for this weekend is incredible. We have the new boathouse and it's exciting. Cal is a great crew and they're going to bring it. I can't wait.
AD: "I don't think it's odd at all. We're just getting started and no one knows what's going to happen. It's fun.
AD: "We watched them a little bit. When we weren't racing we were trying to stay out of the sun for the most part, so we really didn't get to see them race, but I was able to say 'hi' to a couple girls that I knew. That was pretty much it, but we heard that they did well." |
