UW Men Capture Second Place at the Head of the Charles

Boston, Mass. - The Husky rowing team opened the 2006-07 season with a pair of impressive finishes at the Head of the Charles this afternoon. The men finished in second place in the Championship Eights, trailing only the U.S. National Team. The women took sixth place, finishing fourth among NCAA teams. The 2006 Head of the Charles featured 55 events with more than 8,000 athletes competing over the past two days. The three-mile course runs upstream from the Boston University's DeWolf Boathouse to Herter Park on Soldier's Field Road in Brighton. The Husky men's eight finished the course in 14:21.917, three seconds ahead of third place Yale University. The women's eight posted a time of 16:34.304, just 20 seconds off the pace of the top NCAA finisher, Priceton. The U.S. National Team took first place, finishing the course in 15:36.733. In three weeks, the Huskies will compete in the Head of the Lake Regatta that runs from Lake Union eastbound into Lake Washington in the final competition of the fall racing season.
