UW Crews Win Five Events at Husky Invitational

SEATTLE - With the top Washington crews competing in the Bay Area, the rest of the Husky fleet demonstrated its depth by winning five of the seven events in which they were entered Saturday at the Husky Invitational on the Montlake Cut. The annual card of 2,000-meter races included collegiate crews from UW, Washington State and Lehigh along with numerous rowing clubs from throughout the region. Washington's fourth varsity crew won the featured men's race with a five-second victory over Lehigh in the varsity eight competition. The Huskies completed the course in 5-minutes, 59.1-seconds followed by Lehigh in 6:04.4 and a UW's second freshman crew in 6:16.1. Washington State finished first in the women's varsity eight event with an open-water win. The Cougars crossed the finish line in 6:51.1 followed by Washington in 7:00.6 and Lehigh in 7:02.4. Husky crews were also victorious in the men's junior varsity eight, women's novice eight, women's second novice eight and women's novice four events.
