Husky Rowing Experience: 2005 (Junior)--Earned a gold medal in the open four at the IRA national championships ... rowed in the No. 2 seat of the varsity four that won the Pac-10 championship ... helped the UW four to a victory at the Windermere Cup ... a second-team All-Pac-10 academic selection ... traveled with UW's eight to New Zealand for The Great Race in September. 2004 (Sophomore)--Rowed the No. 7 seat for the varsity eight crew that won the Washington State dual ... member of crew that placed first at the Portland Loop ... also won the Head of the Lake Regatta as a member of the junior varsity ... won the senior men's pair at the 2004 U.S. nationals with UW teammate Colin Phillips. 2003 (Freshman)--Rowed in the No. 7 seat on the freshman crew that placed fourth at the IRA Championships ... the Huskies' top freshman boat won its Windermere Cup race. Personal: Son of Cheryl and Spark VanWinkle ... mother and father both attended Washington and are now business owners ... has a sister, Dorrie (24). I chose Washington because: Tradition.
