Erica Schwab Bio in PDF Format
"Erica is a product of the Washington rowing program and that is important," said McElvaine who was named the head coach in 2003 after 13 seasons as an assistant on the UW staff. "She is an excellent coach. Erica got some valuable experience back east and at Oregon State." Schwab came to UW from Oregon State where she served as the novice/freshman coach for the Beavers. Prior to that, she spent six years at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. Schwab was Trinity's novice women's coach for two years before taking over as the head coach in 1998. She also served as an assistant coach on the women's basketball staff at Trinity for the 1997-98 season. A product of Anacortes (Wash.) High School, Schwab first came to UW as an undergraduate and rowed from 1992-95. She won Pac-10 championships in the 1992 novice eight, 1993 in the JV eight and again 1994 in the varsity four. Her 1993 junior varsity eight won the Pac-10 title and finished second nationally. In 1995 she rowed in the junior varsity eight and won a bronze medal at the National Championships. Schwab was invited to participate at the U.S. pre-elite training camp in 1995, where she rowed at the National Training Center in Chattanooga, Tenn. After completing her eligibility at UW, Schwab remained on campus as the varsity intern coach and tutored the third and fourth varsity boats. Schwab graduated from the University of Washington in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She went on to complete her Master of Arts degree in American Studies while coaching at Trinity College.
