Husky Rowing Experience: 2003 (Sophomore)--Joined the team in January after transferring from Michigan State which does not sponsor an intercollegiate rowing program ... immediately earned a spot on the varsity eight ... opened the season in the No. 4 seat, helping UW to a silver medal at the San Diego Crew Classic ... rowed in the third seat for the Huskies' Windermere Cup victory ... settled into the No. 5 seat for the final three regattas of the season ... helped the UW varsity eight to its first Pac-10 championship since 1997 ... member of the silver medal crew at the IRA Championships ... rowed on UW's victorious eight in the Ladies Challenge Plate competition at the prestigious Henley Regatta in England. 2004 (Junior)--Rowed in the No. 5 seat nearly the entire season with the varsity eight crew ... helped UW to its second straight Pac-10 title in the varsity eight event ... Collected a silver medal with the varsity eight boat at the IRA Championships ... Moved into the varsity eight crew for the Califonria dual, which UW won ... the Huskies also registered varsity eight victories in the Windermere Cup and Oregon State dual ... helped the Huskies win the San Diego Crew Classic junior varsity event.
Personal:Son of Patricia and Michael Newlin ... father attended the University of Utah ... mother attended Purdue and is a high school teacher ... younger sister, Kristen (19) is a sophomore on the women's basketball team at Stanford.
