High School Sports: Basketball, rowing High School Awards: Competed with the Junior National Team as a sculler in 1998 ... earned faculty recognition honors as a senior at University Prep. Husky Rowing Experience: 2000 (Freshman) --Rowed five seat in freshman eight all season ... helped lead Huskies to a silver medal at IRAs and a second-place finish at Pac-10s ... crew won on Opening Day and defeated Cal ... took home gold at San Diego. 2001 (Sophomore)--Rowed four seat in the varsity eight that won a bronze medal at the IRAs ... six seat at Pac-10s when Huskies finished second ... five seat at Windermere Cup and Cal and Wisconsin duals ... also rowed five at San Diego Crew Classic and won a silver ... named all-Pac-10 Academic. 2002 (Junior)--Rowed six seat in the varsity eight that won a bronze medal at IRA Championships ... member of the crew that won silver at Pac-10's and the San Diego Crew Classic ... won at Windermere Cup ... helped lead Huskies to victories at the California, Wisconsin and Oregon State duals. National Team Experience: Rowed in the men's quad and finished fifth in the grand final at 2001 World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland. Personal: Son of Lou and Steve Lorton ... both parents attended Otterbien ... mother is a diet technician and father writes for Sunset Magazine ... says he got into rowing because of his mother, who always attended Opening Day on the Montlake Cut and was moved by the heart of rowers as they rowed through "the Cut" ... she vowed that if she ever had a son, he would be a rower.
