May 29,

Adversity continues. Let me share some of our recent adventures en-route to the "Windy-Indy."

The memorial service for "The Hunter" was on noon Wednesday. May she rest in peace.

The Hunter was resurrected Friday (the proper 3 days) after emotional ties proved too strong to ignore. There were tears. However, there was another underlying cause: budget cuts. Could we really pack up all 33 people in the gold Miata to trek across the country or do we make due with duct tape? After the re-evaluation, bow seat was holding on by a few carbon fibers so it was fixable.

The entire team ate the egg tortilla breakfast wraps. Ever heard of salmonella? The entire flight became members of the mile high throw up club. Here's a little unknown fact: five large rowers can fit into one airplane bathroom, if needed.

Once in Indy, we had to drive to Oxford. Have you ever been 12 hours into your travel and blown a tire. We were only 4 miles from Farmersville, so I just ran my little heart out to the local Tom Rapers RV. The glory days of Newport cross country came flying back and I clocked a record time of 28 minutes flat to get us help fast. We were driving past the Dairy Cottage just outside Oxford in no time. We even tried their mini corndogs. Once we started training though, things were back to normal. We do a 60-minute erg to warm up and get used to the humidity, then our regular speed work on the water (8x500 meters, race pace walk through). I'm feeling great.

The Hunter is fine. We only have to bail her out every ten minutes or so, as long as there's no wakes or rain. Then it is more like once every 2k. Things are mellowing out. We are driving back to Indy now and it's quiet. Maybe a little too quiet. Everyone is studying, seeing as we all have final exams on Sunday morning- two finals in one day, school and crew.

Well, I guess all I can say to conclude is that Jan tested the best and chose Pocock. We broke the Pocock, but we'll still race in the best shell on earth. It rivals with Geraldine.
