Washington Athletics Internship Program

Washington's Athletic Internship Program explores many facets of sports administration. Student Interns will gain a strong understanding of possibilities, challenges and rewards facing administrators in Division 1 Athletics today.  To apply, click on the contact name listed in each posting. ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS

Assists staff with daily operations of the Sports Information/Communications Office with concentration on UW Men's and Women's Crew Teams.

Requirements: Must have previous work experience (at least one year) in sports information/communications office in college, professional or semi-pro athletics OR extensive knowledge of crew. Must have strong verbal and written communications skills, ability to get along with others, accept feedback, handle pressure and be flexible.
Responsibilities: Serve as the primary communications contact for the defending national champion men's rowing team and nationally ranked women's rowing team. Work all home football and basketball games and assist with other home events as assigned. Work daily in the Athletic Communications office writing press releases, updating bios, statistics and other duties as assigned.
Duration: August 1 - June 1 (are flexible). Some nights, weekends and Holidays
Pay Structure: STIPEND - $1,000/month w/occasional opportunities to work extra events for extra pay

ATHLETIC TRAINING

Assists certified Athletic Trainers and Team Physicians with healthcare to all UW Athletes. MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.

Requirements: Current cardholder CPR/First Aid/AED. Desire to pursue career in sports medicine.

COMPLIANCE

Assist with daily operations of UW Athletics Compliance office and Staff. Perform special projects as assigned.

Requirements: Student working towards a Master's Degree.
Responsibilities: Compliance Auditing, report generation, data entry and filing.
Duration: September to June, working 15-20 hours per week
Compensation: One Volunteer & One Stipend

COMPUTER SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Assists IT Staff in providing technology support for Intercollegiate Athletics

Requirements:  Must be a current student at the University of Washington. Prior experience in an information technology-related position or coursework/training in computer support, including software, hardware, and networking technologies; ability to make independent decisions; high level of responsibility and dependability.  Ability to lift and carry 50lbs. Experience assembling computers.   Flexibility in order to assist on weekends and evenings. Works independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:1-2 years working in an information technology-related position; experience in equipment repair; experience providing assistance to computer users with technical and procedural information.

Responsibilities: Moving computers, printers, and scanners; disassembling the computer and reassembling in a new location. Maintain staff and public workstations and peripherals, including applying and updating virus detection software, browsers, IM clients, and multimedia applications; installing and maintaining peripherals such as printers, barcode scanners; support for other A/V equipment.  Apply system tools (e.g., Symantec Ghost) for management of public workstations.  Ability to perform equipment repairs as necessary, move and assemble workstations and peripherals, including networking support. Perform other duties as assigned
Duration: 30-40hrs/week ; 1 intern July 15 – August 30 , 2 interns July 29 – August 30

EVENT MANAGEMENT
(Day of Game Operations)

Assists with day to day operations of UW Athletic Events and Staff.

Requirements: Student working towards a Masters Degree. Ability to work weekends and evenings.
Responsibilities: Assist with scheduling of practices, games, meetings, special events and facility rentals. Create Logistics, manage payroll database and schedule event staff for all ICA events.
Duration: 6+ months

IMG SPORTS MARKETING

Assists IMG Staff with all corporate sponsorship efforts on behalf of the athletic department.

Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to make deadlines with proper follow through. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Power Point. Photoshop experience a plus. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, work evenings and weekends.

MARCHING BAND/CHEER
(Web Development/Social Media AND Operations)

Assists with over all coordination, management of webpage and social media, day to day operations, fundraising event planning. MAY BE SPLIT INTO 2 INTERNSHIPS

Requirements: Current or incoming student, Graduate student preferred. Proficient in software applications (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Suite, etc), some accounting, event management and development. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities: Web content, creation, research and development. Outreach and conversation with staff, fans, alumni, donors, and members. Responsible for cultivation of web content best practices. Day to day business operations and travel arrangements. Special event planning and implementation of Fundraising management.
Duration: Two Internships offered. Approximately 10-30 hrs/week

MARKETING & GAME DAY EXPERIENCE

Assists UW Athletic Marketing department which includes game-day production and promotions for all 21 teams within Husky Athletics.

Requirements: Current or incoming undergraduate or graduate student. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities: Hands-on experience in assisting with all aspects of marketing, game production and entertainment at Husky Athletic events. Actively engage fans and especially the Dawg Pack to increase awareness of events and promotions, including regular promotion at campus and community events. Embrace creativity and unique Husky traditions to enhance a game atmosphere that keeps `em coming back for more! Collaborate with Creative Team, Washington IMG Sports Marketing, New Media, and other internal departments to showcase the very best Husky game day experience for fans.
Duration: August - June minimum 10-15 hrs/week

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Responsibilities: Assists with daily practices, set up for home games, facilitate and distribute outgoing recruiting mailers, travel coordination. Help staff with special projects as assigned.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S CREW

Assists in the administrative support and day to day team operations of Coaches and Staff. Organizes mailing and facilitates donor and alumni events. Maintains recruiting and alumni database

Responsibilities: Assist with planning and preparation of events, day to day operations using basic office skills.

MULTI-MEDIA

Assists various members of the Office of Athletic Communications with day to day operations and digital content.

Requirements: Communications under-grad. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interest in learning, or proven knowledge and skills with videography, photography, and the use of editing software. Social media savvy, must be detail-oriented, independent, self starter yet work as part of a team. Ability to work untraditional hours including evenings and weekends. Experience with photography and knowledge of athletics preferred yet not required.
Responsibilities: Create digital content for fan development and recruiting properties and other owned media channels. Other projects as requested.

NEW MEDIA & RECRUITING

Assists with the research and development of unique ideas surrounding new media and recruiting. Contribute to the year-round creation of web content focused on outreach and conversation with fans through social media sites for increased in-game experience.

Assists Coaches and Staff with team operations, day of game preparations and donor/alumni events. Supports Program Coordinator with day to day office management. Contributes year-round social media support. Creates and implements special projects as assigned.

Requirements: Graduate Student pursuing a career in Sports Administration. General Microsoft Office experience, Photoshop or other editing programs. Comfortable learning internal database. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities: Assist with day to day operations of Olympic Sports events, creation of donor and alumni database, assist in travel arrangements for teams, management of social media platforms, coordination of team functions, and help STAFF with variety of duties.
Duration: August - June, 30hrs/week

SPORT OPERATIONS

Assists with the planning, organization, preparation and management of Pac-12 and NCAA events.

Responsibilities: Working with hospitality, ordering equipment and supplies, making travel reservations, and coordinating volunteers for events.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Assists sports performance staff in the day to day physical development of athletic strength, speed and conditioning in UW Athletes. Aids in the incorporation of sport specific, scientifically grounded training methods and principles in a year-round testing cycle. MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.

Requirements: Current card holder of CPR/First Aid/AED and CSCS or CSCCA certified. (Or in the process of becoming certified)

Assists the Student-Athlete Academic Services staff in all facets of the DAWGS Student-Athlete Development program, including programming, career development, community outreach, events, and administrative support.

TICKET OFFICE

Assists in all aspects of operating an intercollegiate athletic ticket office, including interacting with donors, students and the general public. Supports staff in preparation of hosting NCAA Events.

Requirements: Graduate student working towards their Masters degree, career ambition in athletic business or development. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities: Ticket office support including front line sales and customer service relations. Event box office and account management, and player guest admissions, inventory control.

Responsibilities: Assist with recruiting efforts (internal database, mailings), creation of donor and alumni events. Day-to-day volleyball operations, oversight of team banquet and community service programs. Assistant manager of social media play forms.
