June 03, 2023 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – Washington's comeback bid fell short in a 3-1 loss to Florida State on Saturday night at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium.
Lindsay Lopez was lights out coming in relief with one out in the second. Lopez retired 10 of 15 batters faced with five strikeouts and one run allowed. She retired nine straight batters in innings three through five.
Florida State struck first with a pair of runs in the second.
The Huskies got within one in the sixth after Madison Huskey leadoff with a double. Huskey came home on a single from Kelley Lynch.
FSU added another run in the sixth after a leadoff single and a stolen base put the runner on second. A fielding error allowed the runner to score on a sac bunt to make it a two-run game at 3-1.
Washington was down to its final three outs and needed a rally. Sydney Stewart and Baylee Klingler leadoff with back-to-back singles. A double play ended the rally.
The Huskies will face Pac-12 foe Stanford in an elimination game on Sunday afternoon with a 12 p.m. PT/2 p.m. CT first pitch. The contest will also air on ABC. For all the latest tournament information, visit the tournament central page.
