Lopez, Meylan Combine For Shutout At GCU

PHOENIX – No. 11 Washington capped off a 5-0 weekend at the Grand Canyon Classic with a 5-0 victory over GCU on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies are now 18-3 overall on the season.
Lindsay Lopez and Ruby Meylan combined for the shutout, allowing only three hits. Lopez tossed three innings with four strikeouts, while Meylan completed the game with four additional strikeouts.
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies broke through after back-to-back-to-back singles that brought Sami Reynolds, who led off the inning, around from second on Kelley Lynch's hit. Olivia Johnson came in to pinch hit with one out and single through the left side to drive in two more runs for the 3-0 advantage.
After a Baylee Klingler double to leadoff the fifth, Sami Reynolds sent her fourth home run of the season out to right field to extend the Washington lead to five.
Meylan was able to close out the final outs with retiring nine of the last 10 batters faced to pick up win No. 8 of the season.
Up next, the Huskies open conference play at home with a three-game series against Oregon, March 10-12. All games will air across Pac-12 Networks.
