Huskies Open Series With 4-2 Win Over ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 8 Washington (26-6, 7-3 Pac-12) picked up series-opening 4-2 win over Arizona State at Alberta B. Farrington Stadium on Friday night.
With two outs in the first, Sami Reynolds and Sydney Stewart reached base to bring up Kinsey Fiedler. Fiedler brought around Reynolds from second on an infield single.
Arizona State brought across the tying run on an RBI single from Jordyn VanHook. ASU brought across its second run in the third with two outs to take a 2-1 lead.
A runner on and two outs in the fourth, Madison Huskey hit her second triple of the season to score Baylee Klingler to tied the game up at two. Sydney Stewart followed it up with her first hit of the game to drive in the go-ahead run.
SilentRain Espinoza led off the fifth with her second home run of the season to take a two-run lead for the Huskies.
Ruby Meylan picked up her 13th win of the year after tossing four innings with two runs allowed and five strikeouts. Lindsay Lopez earned her second save of the season while striking out five Sun Devils. The two pitchers combined to allow only three hits.
Stewart had a career-high three hits in the contest and also drew a walk to reach base in all four at bats. Espinoza had her sixth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Up next, the Huskies and Sun Devils continue the series with game two on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. and airing on the Arizona State Live Stream.
