Huskies Score Early In 7-3 Win Over Houston

HOUSTON – No. 12 Washington concluded a five-win Houston Classic weekend with a 7-3 victory over Houston on Sunday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.
Brooklyn Carter led Washington with three RBI on the day, while Rylee Holtorf drew three walks.
Ruby Meylan (4-0) earned her fourth win of the season after throwing her first career seven inning complete game. Meylan struck out nine batters along the way.
The Huskies (9-1) were able to capitalize on three Houston errors to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Holtorf, Carter, Baylee Klingler, Olivia Johnson and Sami Reynolds all drove in runs during the inning.
Houston broke up Meylan's no-hit bid with a one out infield single with one out in the sixth. The next batter hit a three-run home run to cut Washington's lead to two, 5-3.
Washington bounced back in the seventh. Avery Hobson and Kinsey Fiedler drew back-to-back walks and with two outs Holtorf drew the third walk of the inning to load the bases for Brooklyn Carter. Carter hit a double to left center to drive in two insurance runs for the Huskies for the 7-3 lead.
The Dawgs were able to close out the game after three strikeouts by Meylan.
Up next, the Huskies head to Lake Charles, La. for a midweek matchup with McNeese on Monday. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. PT/11 a.m. CT. A live stream will not be available for the contest.
