No. 12 Washington Run-Rules Hofstra, Defeats Houston

HOUSTON โ No. 12 Washington opened the Houston Classic with a pair of wins against Hofstra and Houston on Friday at Cougar Softball Stadium. Washington took the first game against Hofstra 10-0 in five innings, while coming away with a hard-fought 6-3 win over Houston.
With the victories, the Huskies improve to 6-1 on the season.

#12 WASHINGTON 10, HOFSTRA 0 (5)
The Washington bats were on fire early, plating eight runs in the first inning. Madison Huskey sent the first run across with runners on second a third with her sacrifice fly. In the following at bat, Sami Reynolds hit her second homer of the season.

With bases loaded, freshman Brooklyn Carter had a bunt single to bring Brooke Nelson in. Baylee Klingler smacked her fifth career grand slam out to left field for the 8-0 advantage after one.

The Huskies added a run in the third off an error.

Jadelyn Allchin came in to pinch-hit in the top of the fifth and sent her first home run of the season out to center field.

Ruby Meylan earned her third win of the season after tossing five shutout innings with 12 strikeouts and allowing only two hits.

#12 WASHINGTON 6, HOUSTON 3
Houston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one, but the Huskies were able to bounce back to secure the 6-3 win.

Reynolds brought in the first runs for the Dawgs with a two-run single to tie the game at two after three innings.

Houston retook the lead in the fourth at 3-2.

The sixth inning saw the Huskies score three runs on three hits. With bases loaded and one out, Olivia Johnson was hit by a pitch to tie the game once again. Washington had its first lead after Kinsey Fiedler was walked. Huskey brough in the third run of the inning in an RBI single out to center for a 5-3 advantage.

Washington was able to add an insurance run in the seven on a sacrifice fly by Rylee Holtorf.
Lindsay Lopez retired the final three batters to earn her second win of the season. Lopez tossed 3.0 innings in relief with three strikeouts and no runs or hits allowed.

Up next, the Huskies continue the Houston Classic with a pair of games against Hofstra (8 a.m. PT) and Morgan State (10:30 a.m. PT) on Saturday.
