Washington Closes Opening Weekend With 5-2 Win Over LMU

LOS ANGELES – No. 14 Washington concluded opening weekend with a 5-2 win over Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon at Smith Field. The Huskies improve to 4-1 on the season.
LMU (1-4) was able to score early, bringing two runs across in the first.
Washington was able to respond in the third with four runs, all with two outs. Kinsey Fiedler hit a triple that just off the top of the wall. Baylee Klingler drew a walk to put runners at the corner. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance with Fiedler scoring. Madison Huskey drew another walk to put a pair of runners once again on for Olivia Johnson. O. Johnson hit a massive three-run home run to give Washington a 4-2 lead.
The pitching staff of Lindsay Lopez, Kelley Lynch and Ruby Meylan combined to strikeout 11 Lions while only allowing one walk. Lopez (1-1) picked up her first win in the Purple and Gold, while Meylan earned her first career save.
Up next, the Huskies head down to Texas for the Houston Classic, Feb. 17-19. Over the three days Washington will face, Hofstra, Morgan State and Houston.
