Tony Castricone Named ‘Voice of the Huskies’
August 29, 2017 | Football, General, Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington IMG Sports Marketing, the third party multimedia rights holder for University of Washington athletics, announced that Tony Castricone (CASS-truh-CONE) has been named Director of Broadcasting, and will serve as the Huskies' radio play-by-play host for football and men's basketball following the retirement of Bob Rondeau at the conclusion of the 2017 Husky football season.
Castricone has worked for IMG College in a variety of capacities, and has served as the radio play-by-play voice for Clemson Tigers men's basketball since 2014. From play-by-play calling to studio host duties, content production and news reporting, Castricone's resume reflects a great deal of versatility within the college sports industry.
"I want to thank IMG for their diligent work in this search," Jennifer Cohen, UW Director of Athletics, said. "The candidate pool we were presented with was incredibly deep and talented. Throughout the process it became abundantly clear that Tony's combination of talent, industry experience and unique energy and excitement for this opportunity could not be matched. I believe he is a terrific fit for our organization, and I can't wait for our fanbase to meet him."
A graduate of Ohio University, Castricone has worked in different capacities providing college football programming for Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, as well as the ACC and SEC conferences. Castricone will take over for Bob Rondeau, who announced in April that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2017 Husky football season.
"This great city, this world-class university, these iconic facilities, UW's culture of integrity, its passionate fan base and its outstanding staff of talented and dedicated people make this the best job in college sports broadcasting, and I'm extremely honored and humbled to accept it. I'd like to thank Jen Cohen, Coach Pete, Coach Hopkins, and Steve Gahler for their support and confidence in me through this process. I'm thrilled to be a Husky, and to follow in the footsteps of a legend. I'll give my best effort every day to serve well the great administrators, coaches, players, sponsors and many proud alumni and fans of this incredible institution in this dream role."
Castricone's hiring was the result of a national search process conducted by Washington IMG Sports Marketing with significant input from University of Washington athletic department officials.
"Tony is a very talented play-by-play announcer, but he brings even more to the table than that," Steve Gahler, General Manager of Washington IMG Sports Marketing, said. "As a digitally-centric, multimedia executive, he will help shape and push UW's brand and message in a new era of football and basketball. He is simply a great guy who will fit with the culture and high standards of UW athletics."
Castricone will start Oct. 2, and will begin his tenure as voice of the Huskies Fri., Nov. 10 when the Husky men's basketball team takes on Belmont in Alaska Airlines Arena.
