Washington Gets The Sweep In Berkeley

BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 8 Washington finished a sweep of the California Golden Bears after beating them, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Stadium.
The weekend marked the Huskies' first sweep of the Pac-12 rival since 2014. The three wins also allowed Washington to tie with Cal in the all-time series record, improving to 44-44.
The sticks were hot in the first inning for the Huskies as they scored three runs early in the game. Lead-off hitter Ali Aguilar walked and advanced to second on a single from Sis Bates. Casey Stangel singled up the middle, plating Aguilar. Taylor Van Zee followed with a two-RBI double to give the Huskies an early 3-0 edge.
Cal also got on the board in the first inning after Lindsay Rood hit a solo home run to center field.
The Golden Bears brought in another run in the third inning on an RBI single to cut Washington's lead just one run.
Taran Alvelo earned her second win of the weekend after, pitching a complete game Sunday afternoon. The sophomore struck out four batters on the day.
The Huskies will return home this week for a midweek game versus Seattle University, followed by the final home series of the regular season. Wednesday's game is set for 6 p.m. PT at Husky Softball Stadium. The team will then host Stanford beginning on Friday, May 5 at 6 p.m. PT.
